Statement taker jobs support detectives in their work by taking some of the routine off them, allowing them more time to concentrate on solving crimes. Ideally you would be an ex or retired police officer for this role as you will need experience in police interview techniques. Although training will be given for statement takers, your skills and experience in the sector will play a vital role in obtaining the key events and times from witnesses.

Statement takers will work closely alongside a team of detectives and will often be involved with sensitive case work; therefore retired-police officers are often preferred. Over recent years there has been an increasing demand from a variety of police forces to compliment their police staff with civilian assistants and so these positions offer an excellent way to remain involved with policing.
