Licensing jobs play an important role in supporting the police and local authorities and cover a wide array of job roles.  The 2003 Licensing Act requires licensing authorities to keep a full and up-to-date log containing the records of licensed premises in regards to the provision of alcohol or regulated entertainment. It will be a licensing officer’s job to assess and manage applications for such licenses and where appropriate enforce the law with the support of the local council authorities and/or the police to ensure the license owners are meeting their obligations.

License jobs also include firearms licensers which will involve conducting enquiries for the grant and renewal of firearms, shotgun, and explosives certificates, in accordance with legislation.  Also local minicab firms require licensing and the appropriate laws need to be enforced.

For all of these jobs there may be some irregular working hours and you would be expected to be able to give evidence in court when appropriate.
