A Hate Crime Officer can be a police officer or a member of civil staff and as such ex police officers who have relevant experience may be ideal for such roles. This is a highly sensitive and delicate area to work in and may involve working with the victims of some of the most distressing crimes.

Hate Crime jobs involve offering support to people suffering from any form of racial, religious, or homophobic crime. Often the victims may be quite vulnerable and so may have been wary about coming forward to report their crime, or they may be on the fringes of society and do not necessarily trust the police. Therefore a job as a Hate Crime Officer will need first rate communication skills and a great deal of patience and understanding.

Hate Crime officers will also work closely alongside members of the local community which helps to maintain an important link with minority groups and helps to promote reporting of all hate crime, without which the police can do little to protect them.
