Council tax officer jobs are those which deal with the administration of council tax within their local area. By raising revenue in the form of a local tax charged to occupiers of property, councils are able to pay for all the services they offer to the community. It is the job of the council tax officers to calculate the liability of the local residents to pay tax, then bill and administer the computer systems for the prompt collection of payment. Generally some previous experience is required in a related field but due to the varied nature of the work, applications are invited from a variety of different work backgrounds.

Within the role of council tax officer you will ensure that the correct payment is billed, ensure the collection of payment. There will also be a need to produce reports and liaise with the local councillors and general public, answering their questions on the subject. It is varied and challenging work that is busy throughout the year. Generally speaking it will be based at the local council offices.
